Burrow is a single-purpose Chrome extension that helps users stop Reddit doomscrolling. It observes Reddit usage patterns to compute a distraction score in real time, warns when the session is turning into a rabbit hole, and can block Reddit when that score crosses a threshold.
On reddit.com only, Burrow observes behavior needed for that score and blocking logic. This may include:
Burrow does not need your name, email address, messages, passwords, payment card details, or location in order to work.
Behavioral scoring is processed primarily on your device. Burrow stores settings and state in chrome.storage.local, including things like your work-hour settings, intentional subreddits, theme, session state, score state, and temporary block state.
Burrow also uses chrome.storage.sync for a small amount of sync state, including an anonymous install ID and limited account-related flags so trial and subscription state can persist more reliably across reinstalls or browser restarts.
Every Burrow install starts with a 3-day Pro trial. To manage that trial, Burrow generates a random anonymous install ID and sends it to a Cloudflare-hosted API at burrow-api.burrow-app.workers.dev. That API stores the install ID and first-seen timestamp so it can determine whether the trial is still active.
The trial API also reads the incoming IP address provided by Cloudflare in order to rate-limit excessive new trial registrations. That IP address is used only for abuse prevention and daily registration limits.
If you subscribe, Burrow may send a Stripe checkout session ID once after purchase to activate Pro, and later send your Stripe customer ID periodically to verify that the subscription is still active. Burrow does not receive your full payment card details.
Burrow uses Stripe for payment processing and Cloudflare Workers for trial and subscription verification. Stripe's privacy policy applies to information you provide during checkout. The verification API is used only for trial activation, paid activation, subscription status checks, and abuse prevention for trial creation.
Any user data Burrow accesses is used only to provide Burrow's single purpose: detecting Reddit doomscrolling and applying warnings or blocks. Burrow does not sell that data, does not use it for advertising, and does not transfer it to third parties for unrelated purposes.
Burrow also runs a minimal script on burrow.app pages to support purchase activation flows and theme syncing. That site script is not used to monitor general browsing behavior.
Questions about this policy can be directed through the Chrome Web Store support page for Burrow.
